The Laptop at School: Classroom Management in a 1:1 Laptop Environment

Do laptops create unique discipline concerns in the classroom? Do teachers and students share an understanding of how to work effectively together in a 1:1 laptop environment? In this session Aaron Tyo-Dickerson will offer a brief overview of the current research on classroom management in laptop programs and then share his school’s philosophical and practical approach to classroom management. Using internalized rules based on Issac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”, the Middle School students and faculty at the American School of The Hague have put into place a flexible set of guidelines for student behavior that encourage student responsibility. Attendees will participate together in a “hot seat” activity based on the Three Rules of Laptops and will receive editable copies of all presentation materials.
